And So He's Gone

By Sharon A. Mack

This poem is dedicated to the parents whose children have met their deaths, not because of what they've done but because of who they are*.

He drank the wine of life*.
My son.
He had only just begun*
My son.
He touched the high of life*
My son.
And now he's gone.

Not because he's bad*
My son.
Not because he drank*
My son.
No drugs, no overdose*
My son,
And yet he's gone*
My son.

And so he breathed his last*
My son.
Begging for his life*
My son.
Stretched out upon the gate*
My son.
Because of some men's hate*
My son*

My beloved son*

I weep*
