LOL!
I never took you for a church-girl, Julie!
When I asked my grandfather what religion he was, he told me he was an
APA, "American Protestant Association." I was raised Catholic, more or
less, (mostly less, but I attended Faith Formation classes, confession
and mass religiously) courtesy of his Irish Catholic wife and we didn't
do Jell-O. We did Waldorf salad. Chef salad. Baked beans. Potato
salad. I guess we made up for the lack of Jell-o with many different
varieties, not to mention bountiful quantity, of alcoholic beverages.
Wine or Jell-O? Jell-O or a Manhattan?
Such a quandary.
See, I've long wondered what all of the excitement was about and
wondered if it is a competition among the ladies Mom associates with at
Tabernacle Baptist Church. The day I complimented Aunt Ruth on her
interesting lime Jell-O layered thing...she replied, "Yeah, and it's a
BEAR to make!" followed by a long explanation of the tedious,
mind-numbing steps involved.
So it seems that the daughters of church ladies learn how to make
elaborate Jell-O recipes, while I learned how to pour shots for my
stepfather, a non-practicing Episcopalian.
By the way, Grandpa converted, and we all clinked Manhattans equally in
God's sight.
